Earwax Removal Options
Removing earwax is something that should be done by a professional. If you would like to perform some home maintenance, some tips are below.
Your ear is going to produce more wax than normal, due to the hearing aid being in your ear. Your body sees this as a foreign object, so you ear will produce more earwax than usual. Excessive earwax may inhibit sound from getting to your eardrum.
- Do it yourself with an over-the-counter kit. You can get these from CVS or Walgreens.
- You can do it yourself using mineral oil or use 50% hydrogen peroxide and 50% water mixture to break up the wax. You will then get a bulb or special spray bottle made for earwax removal (DO NOT USE A STANDARD SPRAY BOTTLE AND DO NOT SQUIRT WATER WITH PRESSURE DIRECTLY AT YOUR EARDRUM).
- Schedule an appt with your primary for earwax removal
- Visit CVS Minute Clinic. They are great at often scheduling same day/next day appts. Not all CVS have Minute Clinics. You can call or check online. Some locations are listed below. Be sure to soften your earwax first for several days prior to seeing your primary or CVS.
